It’s been a long time since the latest malware for Mac OSX was discovered. It would be great if it always was like this. But, unfortunately, new ways to annoy Mac users are being invented. The purpose of my blog is to continue informing you about new threats, viruses, malware as well as Mac OS X and MacKeeper security improvements. Bitcoin miner - DevilRobber has come from the depths of mines.

Just a couple of days ago one more backdoor malware has been discovered. Its name is DevilRobber and it is bundled inside GraphicConverter v7.4. (of course, the GraphicConverter company is just a victim). It’s quite possible that soon this malware will be discovered in other applications and at torrent websites.

Malware for organizing DDoS attacks Tsunami-A

Recently new backdoor malware – Tsunami-A – has been discovered. OSX/Tsunami is able to copy itself to the “/usr/sbin/logind” folder and then create a file named “/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.logind.plist” with the content that starts Tsunami-A after each reboot. One more characteristic identified in a new binary is a new command that controls the IRC server and IRC channel. At the time of writing the IRC servers are not responding.

Malware disguising as Flash Player, be careful!

Several days ago the F-Secure company has discovered a new malware program for Mac OS. Its name is «OSX.QHost.WB.A» and it is disguised as the Flash Player installer. It modifies the hosts file of Mac OS X and when the user tries to open any sites, Google directs them to the IP address based in the Netherlands. The server under this IP address opens fake web pages looking like those the user has been looking for, but in fact spam ads are downloaded from these pages to a Mac.
